
U.S. President George W. Bush emphasis to use the renewable fuel, mounted the shares of alternative energy companies such as Renova Energy Plc, Conergy AG and Vestas Wind Systems A/S.
London-based Renova, which makes ethanol, increased 8.5 pence, or 5.4 percent, to 167.5 pence. Conergy, Germany’s largest solar-power equipment maker, advanced 81 cents, or 1.7 percent, whereas shares of Bonn-based Solarworld AG advanced 1.8 percent and Vestas, the world’s largest maker of wind turbines, added 2 percent.
GTL Resources Plc, a U.K. company developing alternative fuels, jumped 12 percent. Shares of Bagsvaerd, Denmark-based Novozymes A/S, the world’s major producer of enzymes for bioethanol production mounted 3.1 percent.
While addressing the State of the Union, Mr. President said that U.S. should expand a federal mandate to require as much as 35 billion gallons a year of renewable such as ethanol to be used in the nation’s fuel supply by 2017.
