Apple and Cisco Systems are seeking to return to negotiations table as both parties has agreed to discuss the trademark rights over the much awaited and controversial ‘iPhone’ to come to the agreement and find the solution amicably.

Cisco, Microsystems, owned the trademark on the name “iPhone” since 2000 after acquiring Infogear. IPhone filed by Inforgear at March 20, 1996.

Confrontation over ‘iPhone’ arose when Apple announced its multipurpose communication device last month and called it “iPhone,’ Cisco sued Apple the following day claiming trademark infringement.

Cisco claims Apple’s new device is somewhat similar to its own line of wireless phones from Cisco’s Linksys division.

Apple says it’s entitled to use the name “iPhone” because its device operates over a cellular network, unlike Cisco’s phones, which use the internet.
