Apple has warned that some video iPods have become vectors of a Windows virus. Apple says that a handful of video iPods sold after September 12 this year are carrying the RavMonE virus. Apple says that it has so far received fewer than 25 reports from affected users.
Apple trying to add a touch of spin in the apparent embarrassment has issued a statement through its website that said that less than 1 percent of video iPods sold after Sept 12 were shipped with the virus onboard.
Anyway, the RavMonE virus will only activate if an infected iPod is used on a Windows PC. According to Apple, an up to date anti-virus should be able spot the it and stop it causing problems.
So how did it enter the Apple gizmo? Well, it is logical at least. Apple says that the virus got into the video iPods via a Windows PC in the manufacturing line of one of the affiliate company that makes iPods.
However, anti-virus firm Sophos said it was unclear still about exactly which virus was onboard the iPods.
I wouldn’t be surprised if more MP3 players are affected with Windows virus. Recently MacDonalds in Japan recalled MP3 players that it gave away as freebies to customers on similar grounds.
