As per Wall Street Journal website MedImmune which is a US biotechnology company is expected to go in the kitty of AstraZeneca which is a company based in UK. If the deal is finalized then it is expected to be worth $13 billion and an announcement in this respect is to be made today. MedImmune had availed the services of Goldman Sachs in order to explore a suitable buyer for the company. It was looking for bids as a number of companies were interested in it and even the investors were not happy with its stock performance.
Words were going around for quite some time that the company was up for sale and AstraZeneca was considered a probable suitor for it since it was looking to refuel its depleting drug range. MedImmune is known for its nasal spray flu vaccine FluMist besides Ethyol for reducing chemotherapy side effects and Synagis for infectious respiratory disease. Up till now there has been no comment from both the companies with respect to any deal.
