The much awaited, much talked about Boeing 787 dreamliner is scheduled to make its debut in the international aviation market on July 8 at its Seattle plant. The first test flight of the aircraft is planned for late August and its first delivery is scheduled for May 2008. What is really striking about the aircraft is its heavy reliance on carbon composite material which reduces its overall weight and operating cost.
The aircraft already has an impressive order book of 490 orders which is expected to touch 500 very soon, according to Mike Bair, General Manager. According to a company source, the 787 is currently sold out until 2013. Buoyed by this overwhelming response, the company is planning to increase production of this new model. It has outsourced the production of the fuselage, wingbox and other key structural elements to partners across the globe.
