Cadbury, one of the world’s biggest confectionery companies, is likely to be prosecuted over the issue of a salmonella scare. The company has been accused of selling unsafe products in the market.
Due to the scare, the company had to recall around one million chocolate bars from the market. A thorough investigation in this regard was undertaken by council health officers who were involved in interviewing the staff and gathering evidence.
The company faces prosecution for not being able to inform authorities with regards to the contamination which affected the health of a number of people. The company is also facing charges for failing to identify hazards in their chocolate bars. If found guilty Cadbury officials could face unlimited fines or two years in prison.
The company in an official statement stated:
We have fully cooperated with the authorities throughout their inquiries and we will examine the charges that have been brought. As there is now legal action pending, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.
This was caused as a result of leakage in the waste pipe of the cleaning machinery at factory premises of the company and even though the problem had been discovered earlier but the company failed to inform the appropriate officials until June. Up till now company suffered losses to the tune £30 million besides loss of consumer faith in their products.
