This is no good news for Ford Escape sport utility vehicle owners. The company has recalled more than 500,000 SUVs after reports of engine fires caused as a result of corrosion on antilock brake connectors. The models of 2001 to 2004 have been recalled from U.S., Mexico, Canada and Europe. Hybrid version of the SUV has not been affected by the defect. Around fifty engine fires connected to the problems were being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Although there have been no reports of any injuries or accidents but the problem has been identified and affected vehicle owners would be soon notified.

The company will be addressing the incorrectly installed seals on the wiring harness of the antilock brake connector. Corrosion could be caused in case water enters the connector and it might lead to open fuse or burning of the electrical ABS connector or ABS warning indicator lighting up. Dealer will be inspecting the vehicles and replacing the defective parts if any. This report might cause the sales of the SUV to dip and it is necessary that companies should make their quality control stricter if they would like to survive in the competitive automotive market.
