GE now is looking to capture a share in the UK nuclear market. For this purpose it is looking to build a fleet of new nuclear power stations in UK and has written to the government stating that it would be competing for plants in the country. This has come as a surprise to nuclear experts since the Energy White Paper is about to begin and the government will be giving certain guidelines in White Paper as to how the companies should bid for the British nuclear building programme.
GE is targeting this market since it’s quite lucrative. Though GE is not present in the nuclear sector in UK but still it has more than fifteen thousand employees in the UK. With the White Paper the UK government will be launching a consultation as to how nuclear new build can be financed and what needs to be done with nuclear waste. Other competitors in the race include Westinghouse and Areva.
