The not so talked about Google Checkout, a payment service from the stables of Google has been launched in U.K. This service plans to give a fight to mainstream card processing services. This service is also expected to give a push to the online advertising business of the company by offering economical order processing for its advertisers. Up till now the service was only available in the US. It was being labeled as a PayPal killer but the company has played down all these taglines. PayPal is still the dominant leader in the U.S market.
Google has been trying very hard to create a mark with this service and has been using its free weapon for attacking the dominant leaders. It has been offering free processing till the end of the year besides heavy discounts to its US customers. This same scheme would be also be used for attracting users in the UK. Google is trying to capitalize on certain negative pints of PayPal such as abuse of service and frauds. Acting as a wrapper for regular credit and debit card transactions, Google Checkout is looking to simplify the process by storing the details centrally. Looks like Google would like to move away from its shadow of search engine leader and make a mark in other areas too.
