When Google integrated Gtalk with Gmail, a blogger looked at the underlying code and found out about Google’s next move,
Their next big move will likely be GMail for domains - a powerful way for anybody who owns a domain to utilize GMail as a mail server, not just a client. Yahoo has their own small business mail product which does precisely this, and now evidence suggests Google is planning the same.
Need more proof? Google has begun operating, through its Gmail service, San Jose City College’s email system - using SJCC’s own domains.
Now there is no doubt that Google has Microsoft Outlook in its sights. One reason I think Microsoft has been so slow and unimaginative in responding to Google’s challenge is because of its fat earnings from its PC-based and especially, enterprise software sales. This is a loud wake up call for the guys at Redmond.
Think: what would it take for Google to conjure up an alternative to SQL server software? I am sure the guys at Google are poring intently over Microsoft’s Business Division-wise earnings figures.
In fact, I will go out on a limb and say that this should be the start research page for every Web 2.0 startup, too.
