Desire Athow at Network Watch has compiled a great list of 48 improvements he would like in Gmail.
My favorites from the list:
No. # 2. Notepad like draft/tasklist
Gmail is very useful for storing notes and drafts that you are working on. You can always write something and get it stored in the ‘drafts’ section..
No. # 4. Gmail Email Client
The Microsoft Outlook Challenger.
It could be based on Thunderbird or another Open source email client.
No. # 6. Open in New Window
This is arguably the most blatant omission of Gmail.
No. # 7. Folders
Starring is nice but I just can’t forget how folders were easy to use and reduce clutter when I was using Outlook Express.
No. # 12. Save searches
No. # 14. Multiple email accounts on the same machine WITHOUT cookie
No. # 15. View more than 20 in search and more than 100 messages on one page.
No. # 20. Remove invites
No. # 24. Go to next unread rather than to next email simply
No. # 31. Have secured space/Shared accounts like mydrive.
No. # 32. Remove Archiving
No. # 44. RSS feed rather than notifier
takes too much memory space.
No. # 46. Encourage/Develop plugins
