The US Congress has heavily criticized Hewlett Packard (HP) for the espionage scandal initiated by the HP chairperson Patricia Dunn.
Coming down heavily on HP, the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce subcommittee said that the company had little or no legal backing for spying on its own staff and obtaining journalists’ phone records. One of the subcommittee members even compared it to the Watergate scam.
Mark Hurd, CEO, HP later apologized profusely on what he termed as a ‘rogue investigation’. He said;
I wish I had asked more questions. There are signs I wish I had caught.
The main architect of the scam Patricia Dunn had to say this now;
I deeply regret that so many people, including me, were let down by this reliance on such advice. I do not accept personal responsibility for what happened.
Who was the so-called ‘advisor’ and being at the helm of affairs, she should have been more prudent. That is if she didn’t want that ‘investigation’ to happen.
