The communist government of the Indian state Kerala is taking its anti-West stance has decided to ban Microsoft from public-owned/run/sponsored institutions. This move comes within a few weeks after the government banned Coca-Cola and Pepsi following reports of high level of pesticides. Actually, the communist government is always on the lookout for excuses to launch attacks on MNCs, which they term as Economic Imperialists.

The latest ban is actually a part of the drive against what they call as ‘monopolistic organizations’ and for them, Microsoft fits the bill well. So what are the affected institutions like public offices, schools, organizations etc going to do?

Well, the Kerala government is thinking Open Source! It is now advocating and encouraging the various government bodies and institutions to install free software instead of purchasing Microsoft apps.

Anyway, the government is saying that Microsoft is not banned, only that the government was Kerala’s 12,500 government aided/run schools to switch to Linux that is available free. Well, banning has its pitfalls, isn’t it?

Amazing indeed!
