Around one-fourth American is living without a friend or close confidant. According to a study, the average person’s close friends circle has shrunk significantly in the last two decades.



The study, published in the American Sociological Review, concludes that American Social Contacts are mostly emphasizing on the strong bonds of the nuclear family than those of neighbors.



The apparent cause of this problem seems to be the increase in work hours and of course the influence of Internet connection. Internet influence reduces the chances and opportunities of meeting and interacting with people in three-dimensional world.



As so far increasing work hours are concerned American have one of the most flexible work environment to have times for their friends and relatives in comparison with another countries. Concept of telecommuting is making waves in U.S. nowadays.
