Mobile company Orange’s broadband services suffered a nationwide outage in UK today. Thousands of users have complained since Monday afternoon about being unable to connect to the internet.

Orange has since confirmed the nationwide outage of its broadband services but said that it only affected subscribers within their Local Loop Unbundled (LLU) network. LLUs use equipment installed in a telephone exchange by a third party company (other than national telecom company BT) in Britain like Orange. That’s precisely where Orange is pointing the fault at - the equipments LLUs use. The company has said that engineers have restored the lines of 20% of affected customers.

Orange has a huge internet subscriber base with 2 million customers. Users have been complaining of shoddy services since Orange took over from Wanadoo. Given the recent history of similar outages of Orange’s broadband services, one can’t bet that such outages will not happen in the future.
