In a recent development O’Reilly is dragging IT@Cork, a not-for profit networking organization for IT professionals, in to a fierec legal tangle over the issue of violation of trademark rights.
IT@Cork is scheduled to convene a ‘Web 2.0 half-day conference’ over which O’Reilly has objected arguing the organization cannot use the term ‘Web 2.0′ in its upcoming event. The argument is based on the fact that O’Reilly has already applied for the trade mark term ‘Web 2.0′.
Further, O’Reilly says using the term ‘Web 2.0′ will be a gross violation of trademark rights. In the meanwhile, IT@Cork seems to sitting on the fence over the issue.
