After much delay, the PlayStation 3 launched finally in Japan today. As expected, the mad scramble to get a unit of the much-awaited gaming console ensured that it sold out within hours of launch.
With Sony releasing just 100,000 of the next-generation consoles in Japan n launch day, thousands of gaming enthusiasts queued for hours in the November cold to get one copy.
To control the crowd, shop attendants warned eager customers that sales would be stopped in the event of any injury. Stores in Japan organized lotteries to decide who would get a PS3.
Ken Kutargai, Sony’s game unit boss and ‘father of the PlayStation’ thanked those who waited.
Sony said that it would take almost two days to get the exact feedback from the stores on the ’sellout’ of its PlayStation 3.
