Stardoll, community site for young girls that helps them to create paper dolls of celebrities, has clinched a $6 million investment from Sequoia.



Actually, Stardoll is not an avant-garde Web 2.0 startup. It is a simple social site for 7 to 17 year old girls to make, share and discuss paper dolls.



Interestingly, almost 1.2 million unique visitors from 200 countries visit the site every week. However, it earns money through ‘Superstar’ membership that charges $2.85 per month to provide access to exclusive dolls.



However, regardless of appearances, Stardoll is a strong competitor to WeeWorld, Cyworld, Habbo Hotel, Gaia Online and other avatar-based communities.
