Google’s founders have gone on record saying that Google main aim is to organize the world’s information. Portalhood is also not their objective. But I think they might be making a mistake. Two places Google is behind Yahoo:
1. Local Search: Yahoo might have an advantage here. Its innovative FUSE strategy works.
2. Google owns no content: How long will stretch the ‘wisdom of crowds’ argument? On the other hand, Yahoo has its own exclusive columnists and writers. Yahoo also has allied with other content publishers to supply its site with news and commentary. Take its recent deal with Gawker for example. Yahoo might as well be the smartest Media company in the world at the moment.
At least Google should have its own Finance page and use the ‘wisdom of crowds’ to aggregate financial experts’ opinions.
