As per a leading human rights group Wal-Mart has been exploiting the frail labor laws of US and interfering with the rights of workers to organize. Human Rights Watch states that the company has been using a number of illegal tactics for preventing formation of unions and thus creating an atmosphere of fear among its workers.
Carol Pier, author of the report stated:
While Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is not alone in engaging in illegal anti-union tactics, the retailer stands out for the extreme sophistication and aggressiveness of its anti-union strategies.
Commenting on the report Wal-Mart stated that the report was false and unsubstantiated. The human rights group is trying to use the report so that the Congress could use it as a means for passing the Employee Free Choice Act. Let’s see how far this tussle between Wal-Mart and its employees goes.
