A company can be so cool that people forget financial realities and start dreaming, though some may not be off the mark.

First there were rumors that Apple should buy Palm to get a toehold in the handheld market, especially since Apple is tuning up its own Mobile phones.

Then, there was talk about it buying Nintendo, again, to gain a solid entry into the Gaming console business and take on Microsoft more solidly.

But wait. Why not buy the behemoth itself? A fantastic theory by John Dvorak after suggestions by Yakov Epstein, a professor of psychology at Rutgers University, says that Apple should now buy Microsoft.

Dvorak says that to bolster his fantastic proposition, Epstein made four observations:

The first was that the Apple Switch ad campaign was over, and nobody switched. The second was that the iPod lost its FireWire connector because the PC world was the new target audience. Also, although the iPod was designed to get people to move to the Mac, this didn’t happen. And, of course, that Apple had switched to the Intel microprocessor.

Steve Jobs must be having a quiet chuckle. Hark back to the troubling times in 1997. Is this Bill Gates’ worst nightmare?

Thanks to Ferrold for pointing out that Dvorok had only suggested about the possibilities of Apple shifting to Windows.

Actually, I was just thinking loudly, wouldn’t it be fantastic if after a zillion years or so, Apple was indeed in a position to buy Microsoft?

My apologies for mixing it up.

But the idea remains: what if?
