In June this year, Ritu Srivastava blogged over a Nokia study in our sister blog Wirelessly. The study showed that the trend is that people are going for those handheld devices that integrate various features and services like - radio, mp3 player, digicam, alarm clock etc. Indeed, with gadgets like the Nokia N series phones, one needn’t look beyond them for a device that will not only work as a mobile phone, but an mp3 player, radio, alarm clock, digital camera, palmtop etc, etc.
Today, Victor Keegan in The Guardian wrote an article that confirms what the post said.
Keegan writes,
Well, the war is finally over: and the mobile phone has emerged as the winner on two key fronts. For most buyers it will be the device of choice for playing music and taking photographs. I have been trying out some of the latest mobile phones and there has been a big increase in the quality and quantity of the tracks they play, while mobile phone cameras - especially with the release of 3- and 5-megapixel models, such as the Nokia N80 and the LG KG920 - are now as good as the standard digital cameras of a couple of years ago. That is exactly what we said before, isn’t it? The day is near when standalone mp3 players, digicams, etc won’t stand a chance before the kind of devices that are coming up now. It is no longer correct to say that you have bought a mobile phone with a cam, and mp3 playing capabilities. The phone is just a feature like the body, where eyes, limbs, ears etc have different functions and the software controlling the functions as the brain.
What do you say?
