When it comes to the richest persons, women hardly figure amongst the top in the list, and even if they are there at all, most of them are there because of rich inheritance.
The story is different in China though. The sustained economic boom for nearly two decades has seen many new billionaires in Mao’s own country. However, the most surprising fact that emerged now is that the current wealthiest in China’s a woman named Zhang Yin, a 49 year old entrepreneur. Her company Nine Dragons Paper Co made a fortune by turning recycled paper from the US into Chinese packaging products and in turn, she is now worth an estimated $3.4 billion. Her company Nine Dragons Paper Co is listed on an overseas stock market, in this case the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, as many Chinese businesses are.
A woman heading the list of the wealthiest in the world’s most dynamic economy is great news. What makes it even more special is that she is an Asian lady and it shows that when it comes to entrepreneurship, woman are no less than males. This is another way China is showing its progressive march.
