The Xbox 360 may be a hi-fi next generation console to gamers. However, Microsoft thinks that it is much more than just a game console. It wants the Xbox 360 to be the digital entertainment hub of households.

From November 22, Microsoft will start offering moves and television through its Xbox Live service. The movies would include blockbusters like Mission Impossible 3 and Superman Returns. Also, users will be able to download television shows from CBS and MTV. In addition, since Xbox 360 is high definition compatible, the high definition TV and movie content would be available too through the console.

Although Microsoft hasn’t announced the pricing of the downloads yet, it said that they would be available at very competitive prices vis-a-vis pay-per-view programming offered by cable companies at around $5 a movie and the TV content would be approximately the same offered by Apple’s iTunes service.

Microsoft may be way behind Sony when it comes to console sales. However, as things are picking up with Xbox 360, it is possible that the PlayStation 3 can very well lose out to Xbox 360. Besides, the PlayStation 3 is plagued by launch problems. We all are waiting to see how it will fare eventually against the Xbox 360 that is offering so much to users now.
