Yahoo! today announced that it is offering a new tool to enable users create specialized search engines. Named, it will allow users to select sites to search from and then add the site to their own sites.
Google on the other hand has its Google Personalized Search that returns search results taking into account your previous search queries. So, though the two services may look similar prima facie, in reality, they are as different as chalk from cheese.
Rollyo and Eurekster provides similar specialized search tools, which mean that Yahoo’s new tool actually will compete not with Google but with these two companies.
Steven Marder, CEO, Eurekster said;
Containing search to a couple of selected sites has always been a piece of cake. What this really does is validate the market.
However, Eurekster offers features that Yahoo! is not offering now like:
• collaborative filtering of search results,
• tagging, and
• ad-revenue sharing with the publisher.
But it is a matter of time that Yahoo! too will come up with this features and add some more.
As it seems, the search engine wars is just getting fiercer with more weapons being added by the day. At the end of the day however, only the biggies will remain to fight it out come whatever type of search is in question - generic, specific, personalized, specialized...
