Yahoo! going to food biz

Yahoo!, the Internet major has revealed that it is going to make available thousands of recipes, advice from regional celebrity chefs, video cooking guides to its users. It is to create a new lifestyle business in a category that is divided among food industry players and niche recipe sites. Yahoo! Food will be available for the US users initially and then it will gradually move into other English speaking countries like UK, Canada etc from next year and then go all out global. Deanna Brown, General Manager, Yahoo! Lifestyles said in an interview, This is very much of an extension of Yahoo’s media business. It’s a very compelling experience for Yahoo advertisers. It seems everywhere TV companies get their money from, the Web is encroaching their established territories. It may be noted that in the US, the food reference category is actually dominated by cable TV’s Food Network. All I can say now that it’s a good move and the prospects look very exciting indeed. At least it would be great to see how Yahoo! goes from here in this idea.
